IATA Standard Paves Way for Global Mobile Phone Check-in.
05-11-2007. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced a global standard that paves the way for global mobile phone check-in using (2D) mobile barcodes. The 2D barcodes that are adopted as the standards by IATA as Mobile Barcode are the Datamatrix and Aztec codes.
This IATA announcement came after MbarcNewland has released the firmware to read Aztec codes from Paper and Phone LCD for all the products in the product range. This makes MbarcNewland ready to be partner of the Airline Industry to realise Mobile Barcode Solutions.
The IATA announcement only highlights self-service check-in and boarding solutions to be capable to save the industry US$500 million annually. MbarcNewland believes the Mobile Ticket is more than only making an electronic ticket paperless, the opportunities to reach the traveller anywhere on his- or her mobile phone opens up a complete new way of personalised interaction with the traveller.

Bluecode™: measuring Bluetooth® marketing redemption is now possible
GEAR.it Italian Partner of MbarcNewland™ is proving that distributing barcodes to phones can not only be done by SMS/MMS and Wap Push. Using Bluetooth for distributing barcodes GEAR.it introduces a mobile discount voucher concept, the Bluecode™, revolutionizing Mobile Marketing on location.
GEAR.it is a company located in Reggio Emilia, IT, founded in 2003 and since then supplying companies with software solutions for the mobile business. GEAR.it’s mission is to make mission critical data available to the on-field operators in the safest and most economical way.
Bluecode™ is the latest innovative solution offered by GEAR.it, this way widening its range of products with an effective tool for the implementation of proximity marketing campaigns thourgh which vouchers, coupons and any kind of information can be sent directly to the users’ devices in a few seconds via Zonablu® Bluetooth server.
The innovation introduced by GEAR.it stands on the Bluetooth protocol being used as a way for sending discount voucher in the form of barcodes (datamatrix) directly to devices. These barcodes are then validated thanks to the partner company MBarcNewland™ scanner.
“Our solution offers an effective measurement of Bluetooth™ marketing campaign redemption: how many of the contacted customers via Bluetooth server redeemed the discount voucher is no more a guess” says Fausto Piccinini, President of GEAR.it
Bluecode™ will be used in the Portatili store promotional campaign that will take place in Rome, in Piazza di Ponte Milvio, from July 22nd to August 4th. Banners will invite passers-by to activate the Bluetooth feature on their devices in order to get discounts and promotions. Two Zonablu® servers will spread messages in the area of the Piazza. The mobile discount coupon will be redeemable in the Portatili shop at any time during the two weeks of the campaign, simply showing the barcoded message to the shop assistant, who will validate it using the MbarcNewland™ scanner.
